Raleigh – Loren Kennedy reported to a group of business executives that the national recession is creating a higher demand from companies for government assistance. That is probably no surprise, but what is interesting is that the nature of the requests has taken on a different tone.". "Now", Kennedy continued, "we are seeing companies seeking help in reopening their lines of credit by securing government loan guarantees, loans or grants.The answer is maybe. It turns out that certain industries and certain circumstances in a local situation may trigger economic development statutes for public finance help.

Kennedy was addressing a ad hock group of corporate and finance executives to discuss business options in the absence of credit lines.

Cary – National cost containment consultant, Expense Reduction Analysts has named Loren Kennedy to be a speaker at a May conference at The Umstead Hotel on “Optimizing and Finding Capital” in a tough market. Kennedy will speak about public finance opportunities including USDA guaranteed lending and trends in municipal incentive programs. Joining Kennedy in speaking is Tim Gupton of Hughes Pittman & Gupton and Earl Tye, City Executive BB&T Winston Salem.

Durham – TechShop, a firm that Kennedy Advisors supported with debt financing conducts its grand opening in its unique, new 25,000 square foot facility. Attendees were able to try out the tools and machines with instructors on hand. During the twelve hour celebration, demonstrations were conducted on the incredible Saw Stop Table, the Epilog Laser Cutter and the ShopBot generated small plaque gifts to attendees. Those who brought something to sew on were able to leave with custom embroidery.

Boone – The final multiple contracts involving $4.25 million were signed for land purchases, stock transfer, development commitments, lease terms, and grants by Tweetsie Railroad, Watauga County Commissioners, the Tourist Development Board, BB&T and various family land owners. Loren Kennedy and Dave Bodart worked with Tweetsie for over three years to help put this agreement together.

RTP - Pharmaceutical corporation released a press release conforming that they will move to RTP with over 100 new jobs. Although they had already identified approximately $300,000 in state tax incentives they could qualify for, Kennedy Advisors was brought in to review the situation. The incentive package was increases three fold, to about $900,000 as a direct result of that review.

Renesas Technology America re-engaged Kennedy Advisors to sublease the remainder of their 60,000sf Eastern region headquarters. “I am especially pleased with this reappointment”, says Dave Bodart, Partner. “I would wager that it is very rare in our industry to be re-hired after another brokerage has been engaged. We are flattered that they cited the advisory side of our services as the reason they came back. South Forest Investors is awarded the development contract to build the new prototype facilities. Loren Kennedy, is an advisor to Progress Energy on the public private partnership that is proposed for a mixed use development in downtown Raleigh. The City of Raleigh desired a mixed use development plan that would include retail and residential use. The private entity was planning to build a large corporate headquarters. Loren Kennedy, Managing Director, Landauer Associates, advises CMS Energy on their 3.5 million square foot portfolio. The key part of the engagement ends up with CMS rethinking moving 500 employees out of downtown Jackson. Instead, they consolidate some 2,000 jobs downtown and the municipal government entities contribute $39.5mm in assistance. CMS built their new $70mm, 360,000 square foot headquarters adjacent to the post office building that was part of the grant. Read the article
